Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped covers for your teeth used to correct a variety of cosmetic dental issues. At Sunrise Dental of North Bend in North Bend, Washington, Rehan Syed Bashar, DDS, partners with local dental labs to create custom veneers that look like your natural teeth — only better. Dental veneers are super-thin “covers” made from tooth-colored porcelain and that Dr. Bashar places on the front surfaces of your visible teeth. Veneers are shaped like your teeth and tinted to match your surrounding teeth so they look natural and blend in perfectly. Their thin design means they’re comfortable, and they’re made of durable materials that resist stains.
Veneers have many cosmetic applications. They can be used to correct aesthetic issues like:
Veneers can be applied in just two visits, and they can be used alone or in combination with other treatments and procedures for a complete smile makeover.
Each veneer is custom designed so it looks natural and fits comfortably on your tooth. The procedure usually takes two visits. At your first visit, Dr. Bashar removes a small amount of surface material from your tooth. Then he takes an impression or mold of your tooth and sends it to a local dental lab that specializes in dental veneer fabrication. In the meantime, he places a temporary veneer on your tooth to protect it while you wait for your permanent veneer. In a couple of weeks, you come back to the office and Dr. Bashar removes the temporary veneer and replaces it with the permanent veneer. He fits and adjusts it so it feels comfortable and looks natural.
With proper care, your veneer can last 10 or more years. Although the veneer material is strong, it can still be damaged. That means you should avoid chewing on ice or hard candy or using your teeth as tools. The same guidance keeps your natural teeth in good shape too.
Care for your veneer just like you care for the rest of your teeth — with regular brushing and flossing and routine dental checkups to make sure the underlying tooth and surrounding gums stay healthy.
